Critical Thinking

Description

Critical thinking is an essential skill for 21st Century learners, but it can be challenging to teach. In this course, we will use research-based best practices to discuss: filtering information, finding and evaluating sources, avoiding common pitfalls of misinformation, using logical reasoning strategies, and seeing the value in other points of view. In addition, this course includes teacher resources, like lesson plans and slide decks, to allow you to use the same content and activities with your students.

CEU Credits

Enrolled users will earn 0.5 continuing education units (CEUs) upon completing the course.

Objectives

  1. Learners will be able to think critically using research-based strategies.
  2. Learners will be able to teach the critical thinking skills from the course to their students.

Prerequisite Skills

The ability to manage time and work independently on a course, the ability to read content at a sixth grade level in a digital format (or accessibility tools to assist, like screenreader software)

Course Grading Policy

In order to receive CEU credit for this course you must earn a score of 70% or higher on any quizzes.

Technical Equipment and Skills

  • Equipment: a computer, tablet, or smart phone, access to the internet, headphones (optional), a personal Google account
  • Skills: the ability to navigate a course within a web browser, a basic understanding of using Google Slides
